Gi BJJ classes are undertaken in a traditional Gi (kimono) uniform. This grappling style is grip-heavy as both you and your partner can grab one another’s clothing.

The benefits of these grips make for many exciting techniques and submissions that are not possible in the other forms of grappling.

Class Types

  • Beginners - covering the fundamental techniques and movements, this class caters to white belts only.

Gi BJJ classes are undertaken in a traditional Gi (kimono) uniform. This grappling style is grip-heavy as both you and your partner can grab one another’s clothing. The benefits of these grips make for many exciting techniques and submissions that are not possible in the other forms of grappling.

What Should I Wear for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

We train with GI but if you’re new to BJJ, it’s fine to wear shorts/leggings and a t-shirt for your first couple of classes. However, please note, there should be no zips and/or buttons on any item of clothing. Please also ensure your finger nails and toenails are short so you don’t accidentally scratch anyone.

What Should I Expect from my BJJ Class?

All our classes start with a warm up (Individual warm-up, individual movement drills, basic partner drills or a vigorous conditioning warm up).  Instructors then move on to demonstrate techniques, set ups and positions. Students then drill these and use them in the sparring that follows.

Class Type

  • Beginners - covering the fundamental techniques and movements, this class caters to white and blue belts (although we recommend all levels to attend).

Class Time: Tuesdays at 6:00 PM

Age Group: 6 to 15 years

Below is some helpful information to ensure your child gets the most out of each class.

🥋 What to Bring

• Comfortable athletic clothing (rash guard, shorts or leggings — no zippers or buttons)

• Mouthguard (optional but recommended)

• Drills & Controlled Sparring (10–15 mins): Supervised partner work to apply what they’ve learned.

• Cool Down & Talk (5–10 mins): Stretching, mindset coaching, and Q&A.

Parent Guidelines

• Please arrive 10 minutes early so your child is ready to begin on time.

• Ensure your child uses the bathroom before class.

• Spectators are welcome to watch from the designated area, but we ask that all distractions (phones, loud talking, coaching) be kept to a minimum.

• Encourage your child but leave corrections and coaching to our instructors.

• If your child is sick or injured, please keep them home and notify us.

🧠 What Your Child Will Learn

• Striking (boxing, kickboxing fundamentals)

• Grappling (takedowns, escapes, and submissions)

• Positional control and self-defense skills

• Respect, discipline, confidence, teamwork, and goal-setting

Attendance & Progress

• Consistent attendance is key to your child’s progress.

• We track participation and skill development to determine when a student is ready for stripe or level promotions.

• Promotions occur periodically and are based on effort, technique, attitude, and improvement — not just attendance.
